Why Skin Ages

A number of physical changes occur within the skin as we mature and many are caused by sun exposure.  The sun's rays (photons) damage collagen, elastin and basal cells (the cells that duplicate themselves to continually replenish the skin).  The skin's repair processes are not perfect and in time cellular DNA becomes flawed, allowing these cells to produce other flawed cells that execute skin functions in a less than perfect manner.  The skin's defense mechanisms become less effective, repair processes less efficient, allowing the skin's health and appearance to decline.  At the same time, progressive deterioration of the microvascular system (tiny feeder vessels in the skin) compromises the flow of nutrients and oxygen into the skin and the removal of waste matter, further compromising its ability to function optimally.

The body's digestive system becomes less capable of extracting nutrients, like zinc, calcium and other essential minerals from foods and the supply of these nutrients within the skin is reduced.  Zinc and calcium, for example, are critical to cell turnover and immune and repair functions within the skin.  The reduction in the skin's availability of these minerals, slows skin processes, causing the skin's health and appearance to decline.

While this may sound like a hopeless condition, today's science is becoming quite sophisticated and has developed the means to reverse many of these conditions.  Effective skin rejuvenation products must be developed with an understanding of the skin aging process and a knowledge of the precise natural chemicals that stimulate the skin's repair processes..
